The annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival provides the premier lacrosse competition between public and private high school players in the Mid-Atlantic Region, in an atmosphere promoting sportsmanship and camaraderie. The Festival is organized by volunteers from the Philadelphia regional lacrosse community and the Katie Samson Foundation.
The community is inspired by the courage and perserverence of Katie, a local NCAA Division III lacrosse champion, who, in January, 2000, was the victim of a devastating spinal cord trauma paralyzing her from the chest down.
Highlights
- 24 premier boys' and 24 premier girls' playing regular season games.
- Public vs. Private school competition between top rated high school lacrosse teams. The Festival offers the opportunity for these athletes to experience a unique community spirit of giving while competing in a challenging sporting event.
- In 2007, over $140,000 in festival proceeds were donated to fund spinal cord research, to promote adaptive sports for spinal cord patients, and to maintain the NTAF Catastrophic Injury Program to support Katie's uninsured medical needs.
- Over 7,500 attendees, along with extensive media coverage.
- Former Eagle, Mike Mamula will be there!
The HEADstrong Foundation
The HEADstrong Foundation will be at the festival. Take 10 minutes out of your day to save a life. A simple swab of a cheek is all that is needed so your tissue type can be tested for a possible match for someone who is needs a life-saving marrow transplant. We will have a tent and tables set up from 10am - 2pm on the grounds of Radnor High School.
